HOPE LOVES HARMONY
A music-driven therapeutic program
serving the adults of loved ones with
Substance Use Disorder (SUDs). We also work
with adults enrolled in treatment programs.
Hope Loves Harmony (HLH) is a weekly 60-
minute group music-engagement session, held
over 6-8 weeks and conducted in collaboration
with musicians and clinical addiction/recovery
professionals. Created by musician & parent,
Cheryl Cawood in collaboration with Marsha Hunt
(Executive Director) and James Johnson (MA /
Music Therapy), HLH can be customized and
delivered in a variety of health, wellness and
therapeutic settings.
The group with the greatest first hand
exposure to the effects of SUDs are parents
and caregivers. This is because substance use
often begins during adolescence. Heavy
alcohol and marijuana use during adolescence predicts later involvement with the criminal
justice system and increases risk for
diminished work capacity and premature
death. (*Fergussen & Horwood, 2000; Fergussen et al.,
